PTO Board Election Bios

Thank you to the following people who have volunteered to be a part of our Winding Creek PTO Executive Board.  Please take a minute to read through their bios and then use the Google Form to vote for the individuals who you feel would best represent the Winding Creek parents, teachers, students, and community.

Nominations for President:

Jamie Hund

Hello! My name is Jamie Hund. My husband Matt and I are excited to have all three of our children at Winding Creek Elementary for the 2018/2019 school year.  My two boys will be in 4th grade and 2nd grade, and my daughter will be starting Kindergarten.

I am a Lebanon County native, but have lived in Hampden Township for the past sixteen years. After graduating with a B.S. in Health Communication from Juniata College in 2003, I went on to work in the corporate world for nine years before deciding to stay home with my growing family.

While at home with my kids, I have enjoyed volunteering in and engaging with the community. I have held a Preschool Advisory Council position at Aldersgate Preschool for the past six years where I head our fundraising initiatives, included raising funds for an entirely new playground two years ago. I have also been active in our current elementary school’s PTO as a room parent for each of my two boys’ classrooms for the past four years. Last spring I held a chair position for our school’s Family Fun Night as the Ticker Coordinator. This year I have taken on the challenge of being a co-Head Room Parent for our school which has 31 classrooms. Along with “Momming” and volunteering, I also have a small baking business from my home and teach fitness classes twice a week at a local fitness studio. I feel that we have a very unique and exciting opportunity to develop a strong PTO organization - one that will help foster a sense of welcome for all, and of being part of a greater community.

It is my goal to help create a culture at Winding Creek where every parent, teacher, and child feels valued and part of something bigger. We have an amazing opportunity to create something really special at Winding Creek!

Selena Ling

Selena Ling

(continued)

I am originally from Bedford, Pa. I got married in April 2001 and my husband, Jeremy Ling, moved here in November 2003.

I graduated from Allegany Community College with a Degree in Human Services in December 2000. I started working at the Bedford/Fulton County Head Start Program, as a Family Development Specialist. I worked there for over 4 years and then in other various positions working with children. I was the lead pre-k teacher then became the Director, at Kids on Campus Development Center in Enola, Pa. I worked there for over ten years.

My husband and I have three wonderful Children, Angel, age 13, Lilly, age 8 and my youngest son, Jeremy, age 5. They are involved in all sorts of actives…. dance, softball, baseball and competitive shooting, church youth group, and others.

I had the opportunity to help my husband start his own home inspection/radon firm. I have been the office manager for over three years and we have since added several employees to our business.

I have been a room mom and also volunteered in the classroom and on field trips. I have also taught Sunday school and volunteered with organizations at our Church. I have coached my cheerleading and have volunteered with my both my daughters softball teams.

I view the Parent-Teacher Organization as a critical pillar helping the school system to help provide an outstanding curriculum and standards for the children in the school district. I believe they should be in lock step with the school administration in helping to formulate policies that facilitate a nurturing environment for not only the children, but the teachers as well.

I have been in leadership positions for many years and as a parent of three younger children I believe this partnership, the school administration and PTO is a vital relationship and I want to be a part of it.

Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Nominations for Vice-President (Choose Two):

Ela Gupta

Mrs. Gupta will have her information on this link as soon as we are able to provide it.

Amy Nastick

My name is Amy Nastick. I was born and raised in Montgomery County, Maryland and moved with our family to the Walden neighborhood in the CV School District almost four years ago. We have quickly settled into this wonderful neighborhood and began raising our four daughters, Brooke, Grace, Jillian, and Abby here. One of the things that comforted me in moving to the area was all of the amazing things I read and heard about the CV School District. I was nervous to relocate away from my family, but I can say without hesitation I fell in love with Cumberland Valley right away. I immediately felt a sense of community and togetherness here.

All four of our daughters will be entering Winding Creek Elementary one grade apart from each other (fourth, third, second and first grades). After meeting Principal Runkle, incoming staff, and new families and hearing updates about the school and the vision for our children at Winding Creek, I feel absolutely thankful we have this opportunity.

I am running for Vice President of the PTO because I want to be a part of leading this brand new school and support our new teachers, parents and students. I am excited about the opportunity to work collaboratively with a team to create the blueprint for all of the amazing opportunities and events for our new school.

I have been attending the monthly PTO meetings of our daughters' current elementary school since we moved into the District. I have been highly involved in various capacities, including working closely with our PTO President to create a brand new event (the Ice Cream Social) for our school two years ago, an event which I lead from start to finish this past fall. I volunteer for many other school functions as well, such as Field Day, Sprint for Silver Spring, Knowledge-a-thon, Harvest Day, and other classroom activities for different holidays, year-end parties, and award celebrations.

I look forward to continuing to volunteer my time and bringing my experiences to our new school and PTO.  It would be an honor to be voted in as one of the Vice Presidents to help get Winding Creek started with a strong PTO.

Cozette Roderick

I live with my husband, Jeff, and my 5 year old son, Enzo, who will start Kindergarten this fall.

I see my son Enzo become more engaged when he sees his parents involved and taking an interest in his school and other activities. I see him get more excited and that drives me to want to take more active roles in his education and extracurricular programs.

As a parent I need to set a good example for my child, and taking a leadership position in the PTO is a good start.

90% of my time is spent in a kitchen, either at my restaurant and farmers’ market shop, or at home.  So, while I am a food lover, good listener, leader, go getter, meditator, traveler, problem solver, avid reader, and peacemaker, I also know how to roll up my sleeves, get to work and get it done (and sometimes that includes putting out fires!)

I’m ready for a challenge and to help our teachers and children in any way that I can.

Thank you for your consideration.

Nominations for Correspondence Secretary:

Sarah Festa

Sarah Festa is a mother of two; she will have a kindergartener and second grader at Winding Creek. Previously, Sarah has served as the Secretary on a preschool advisory board. Sarah plans to bring her past experience as an educator and school administrator to the Winding Creek PTO to help create a meaningful, enjoyable and intentional school community. Sarah is interested in taking on the role of the Corresponding Secretary because she knows how vital parent knowledge and participation is to a school’s success. Sarah prides herself on her organizational skills. She feels confident with the task of keeping social media, websites and emails up to date with correct information. Sarah’s warm personality is just one characteristic that makes her the right fit for the job. She’s approachable and will help anyone get caught up to speed when they need it. The first year at Winding Creek will be an exciting one filled with many events that will help build the school’s culture. Sarah is hoping to have the opportunity to collaborate with the other executive PTO members and parents to create a memorable year.

Nominations for Recording Secretary:

Ara Washburn

Hi, my name is Ara Washburn. I have two boys who will both attend Winding Creek, one will be in the 2nd grade and the other will enter Kindergarten.

We are very excited for the new school to open and to be a part of the new school community. Prior to having children and becoming a stay at home mom, I taught middle school science and so I understand the value in having a strong school community with parent involvement.

I am excited about building this new school’s community and growing the organization from the ground up. I feel it is so important to show support from the families perspective and believe it does “take the village” to raise and educate our children.

It is with this belief that I do hope to be given the opportunity to work on the executive board of this new PTO and grow a positive, educational culture in Winding Creek.

Nominations for Treasurer:

Tatiana Roberts

My name is Tatiana Roberts and I am running for Treasurer.

I have two children in the Cumberland Valley School District. One of them is in 10th grade and the other is in 3rd grade.

My family and I relocated to the district a little over a year ago from Philadelphia. At my children’s previous school, I was in charge of running the twice annual book fair which included handling the finances, scheduling volunteers and communicating with teachers. I was also active in the school community by volunteering for other school events and fundraisers.

This year in the district I have volunteered to be the home room parent in my son’s 3rd grade classroom as well as other activities.

I would like to be Treasurer because I enjoy volunteering and being part of the school community. This role specifically will allow me to help plan various activates at our new school. At the same time being treasurer will allow me to utilize my personal skills and interests to benefit the PTO.
